How the Backdrops are Made
All the backdrops on this site have been created by a process using multiple high resolution images stitched together to form one large panoramic image. This method allows for much higher resolution than could be obtained by extracting the same size image from shot. Some of these backdrops are made up of as many as forty of fifty individual images. Once stitched together I edit the resulting image to eliminate anything that would take away from the backdrop, like a blade of grass or a brach in the very fore of the image that would appear way too large or just out of place. I then determine the maximum size I can print the image, and for backdrops with buildings or vehicles, etc. the suggested size so those objects do not appear out of scale.
Sizing
Next to the backdrop number you will see a maximum size available and a list of suggested sizes. The maximum size available is a limit determined either by the limit of my print capability, 44", or if the image resolution will suffer by making it any larger I limit the size for quality purposes. The suggested size, as mentioned above, is simply the size where any objects such as buildings or poles may appear out of scale if printed any larger. It is ultimately up to the buyer to determine if the scale of the image will work for their layout. If you ever have any question about the size of an object just send me an email or call me and I can help you determine the exact size an object will print. Finally, many backdrops can have the sky replaced. If the height is not what you need but the scale is important I may be able to add to or replace the sky to make the backdrop taller.
The sizes shown are by no means the only sizes a backdrop can print, if there is a particular size you need just let me know and I can usually work that out
Custom backdrops
Think of the backdrops on the site as raw materials for creating your backdrop. There are a number of options available in creating the backdrop you desire. If an image is not the length you are looking for, the image can be reversed to form a mirror image extending the length of the backdrop. Int his case I will use editing software to remove some of the most obvious mirrored portions.
Another option is to blend one or more backdrops together to create a custom scene. This works best when the backdrops are similar. For this option just let me know what you are looking to do by filling out the form on the Custom Orders page.
Ordering Your Backdrop
Once you have decided what you are looking for you can fill out the Order Form by clicking the blue ORDER HERE tab next to the image. Just fill the form out and be sure to let me know what size you are looking for. Most of my payments come via PayPal invoice which I email to you. You do not need a PayPal account to use this method. Simply open the invoice and follow the instructions.
If you prefer, I can take a credit card over the phone. Just let me know when would be a good time to call you or give me a call at your leisure.
Printing Your Backdrop
Once your order is set I will go to work printing the backdrop. backdrops less then fifteen feet long will print on one piece of paper. Greater than fifteen feet will be printed in sections. There are a couple reasons for this. One is that a large roll of paper can be somewhat ungainly when trying to mount behind a layout. Smaller sections seem to work better from what my past customers have told me. The second reason for sectional printing is that if in the mounting process the backdrop gets misaligned a little, it can simply be adjusted when starting the next section.
Each section will have about a four inch overlap to aid in the process. This does work better with the adhesive vinyl paper as this paper is much thinner leaving a far less noticeable seem.
